John Christopher of the Airship Nazca team with Gennady Verba and Michael Talesnikov of RosAeroSystems - builders of the Au-30 airship
Airship Initiatives is working with Professor
Nick Saunders and the University of Bristol's Archaeology Department on the archaeological aspects of the project, and the handling of the data and imagery obtained. Nick Saunders is recognised internationally as an expert on the Nazca lines and geoglyphs and, together with Professor Clive Ruggles of Leicester University, is involved in on-going research at Nazca.
The Airship Nazca team will work closely with the authorities in Peru to ensure that this project is conducted in accordance with their requirements for the preservation and recording of the Nazca site, and for the operation of the airship.
Approaches are also being made to UNESCO to obtain official endorsement of the project.
The Airship Nazca project has been devised by Airship Initiatives, a UK-based company dedicated to putting airships to work. With extensive experience in
lighter-than-air flight and operations, John and Ute Christopher of Airship Initiatives are involved in a range of international airship projects and also act as independent consultants. As Zeppelin Tours they organise airship pleasure flights in Germany, Japan, the UK and the USA.
John is a commercial balloon pilot and as a journalist and author he has written seven books plus countless articles on lighter-than-air.
